Meta Ads for trade and vocational schools
Meta Ads for Trade Schools: Campaigns and the Enrollment Funnel Behind Them
We write and edit your Facebook and Instagram ads, build the program page, form and follow-up behind them, and report on the only number that matters: what each started student costs you.
Book a free enrollment auditScalenroll runs Meta Ads for US trade and vocational schools as a paid media agency that also builds the enrollment funnel behind the ads: a program page or video page per program, a qualifying form with TCPA consent, SMS and email follow-up, an admissions call script and conversion tracking to started students.
Schools keep ownership of their ad account, pages and data, pay the media budget directly to Meta, and pay us a fixed fee that never depends on enrollments.
Key takeaways
- Ads, program pages, qualifying form, follow-up and tracking in one engagement.
- We write and edit; your team films on a phone. No on-site shoot.
- You manage the campaigns, or we do for a fixed fee. Media budget is paid by your school.
- Fees never tied to enrollments, in line with 34 CFR 668.14(b)(22).
- Weekly reporting on cost per start against your own 30-day baseline.
Why most trade school ad budgets leak after the click
Most trade schools already pay Meta. The ads are not the problem. What happens next is. When we reviewed the active Facebook and Instagram ads of 68 US trade and career school advertisers on October 26, 2026, about 22 of the 54 independent schools sent the click to their website, usually the homepage, and about 14 routed it to a phone call or a message thread with no form. Three captured nothing at all.
A prospect who lands on a homepage has to find the program, the cost and the form alone. A prospect who must call loses interest at 9 pm. A lead who is called back the next afternoon has already heard from an aggregator and two other schools. You paid for the click either way.
We do not sell more clicks. We build and run what turns your clicks into started students, and we measure it on cost per start.
What the Meta Ads and enrollment funnel engagement includes
One engagement covers the ads and the funnel behind them, program by program:
- Ad scripts and creative. We write the scripts and a shot list; your instructors and students film on a phone; we edit 3 to 5 short vertical ads per program with captions and editable start dates. We do not film on site.
- A program page or video page per program. For programs that need explanation, a 4 to 7 minute video page covering the job, sourced pay, duration, schedule, total cost, the financing that actually applies, start dates and a graduate. Built on your website, delivered as a draft for your approval.
- A qualifying form. Six to eight questions (program, start date, diploma or GED, how they plan to pay, availability, zip code) with an unchecked call and text consent box naming your school.
- Routing and follow-up. Qualified prospects book a campus tour or a call on your admissions calendar; others enter an email sequence. Automatic SMS confirmation within seconds, then SMS and email follow-up over 14 days, appointment reminders and no-show rescheduling, in your CRM if you have one.
- The admissions call. A script for the first five minutes and a remote training session for your admissions team, so every lead is called while it is still warm.
- Conversion tracking. Meta Pixel plus the Conversions API on qualified lead, appointment, tour attended, enrollment and start, so Meta optimizes for students who start, not for form fills.
- A weekly dashboard. Cost per lead, cost per qualified lead, time to first call, tour show rate, enrollments and cost per start, compared with the 30 days before launch.
Two ways to run the ads
| You keep campaign management | We manage the campaigns | |
|---|---|---|
| Who builds the funnel | Scalenroll | Scalenroll |
| Who runs Meta Ads Manager | Your team, with our creative, settings and audiences | Scalenroll, for a fixed monthly fee |
| Who pays the media budget | Your school, directly to Meta | Your school, directly to Meta, in addition to our fee |
| Who activates campaigns | You | You: we create every campaign paused and you switch it on |
In both cases your school owns the ad account, the pages, the pixel and the data. If we stop working together, everything stays with you.
How we are paid, and why it is never per enrollment
Our fees are fixed. They never depend on the number of leads, enrollments or starts. For schools that participate in federal student aid this is not a preference: 34 CFR 668.14(b)(22) prohibits a Title IV school from paying any commission, bonus or incentive based in any part on securing enrollments to anyone engaged in recruiting or admissions. We apply the same rule to every school so that there is never a question.
What we commit to is delivery: the scope, the milestones and the dates in the proposal. What we measure, and report every week, is the effect on your cost per start against your own baseline. We do not guarantee enrollments, and you should be wary of anyone who does.
Which schools it fits
The engagement fits independent schools and small groups that already run, or are ready to run, Meta ads for programs with frequent start dates. In our October 2026 review, the segments with the most schools paying for ads without a funnel behind them were:
| Segment | Why the funnel matters |
|---|---|
| CDL and truck driving | Short programs and frequent starts: speed of follow-up decides who gets the student. The form can screen objective criteria such as license and age. |
| Barber, cosmetology, esthetics, nail technology | Young, visual audience and campus visits that decide enrollment. Proof (real work, graduates in salons) carries the page. |
| Short healthcare programs (medical assistant, phlebotomy) | Competition from cheap online programs: the page has to show labs, clinical hours and externships, and the form has to screen on financing. |
| HVAC, welding, electrical, plumbing | Longer, more expensive programs: more explanation needed per prospect, which is exactly what a program video page does. |

How Meta Ads fit with SEO and AI visibility
Meta produces inquiries this month, as long as you pay. Search and AI assistants produce inquiries you do not pay for per click, but they take months. The two share one foundation: a strong page for each program. The program pages we build for your Meta funnel are the pages we then make rank on Google and get cited by ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews.
That is why many schools start with Meta and the funnel, then add organic acquisition once the pages exist, so that the share of starts you pay for per click falls over time. Read more on SEO for trade schools or the full trade school marketing agency engagement.
What we usually fix first in a trade school Meta account
Before writing a single new ad, we read what is already running. In our October 2026 review of active US trade school ads, the same issues came back again and again, and each one costs money every day it runs:
- Ads that announce a start date that has already passed, or copy written for last year that no one has reread.
- Objectives that cannot produce leads, such as Page likes or boosted posts without a button.
- The homepage as destination instead of the program the ad promotes.
- A phone call as the only next step, which loses every prospect who sees the ad after hours.
- Budget split across many near-identical variants, none of which gets enough delivery to be judged.
- No offer for prospects who are not ready to apply: no tour invitation, no program guide, no financing check.
Fixing these rarely needs a bigger budget. It usually means fewer ads on clearer angles, each pointing to the right page, with someone calling back within minutes.
What we need from your school
The engagement is built so that your team spends hours, not weeks, on it. We need:
- One owner on your side, usually the admissions director, who approves scripts, pages and the call script.
- Footage filmed on a phone from our shot list: the trade in action, an instructor, the campus, and graduates who agree in writing to appear.
- Program facts in writing: total cost, schedule, start dates, admission requirements, and only the financing options that apply (federal aid if eligible, WIOA if the program is on your state’s Eligible Training Provider List, GI Bill if VA approved).
- Access to your Meta Business account, website editor and CRM, or a shared tracker if you have no CRM.
- An admissions team that can call within 5 minutes during business hours. If that is not possible today, we start there, because it is usually the cheapest gain available.
How an engagement starts
- Free enrollment audit. We read your active ads in the Meta Ad Library, the page behind them and your inquiry path, and show you where prospects are lost. No access to your accounts needed.
- Baseline. We record the last 30 days on the same programs: leads, qualified leads, first-call time, tours, enrollments, starts.
- Build. Scripts and shot list first; once your footage arrives, we deliver the edits, pages, form, automations and tracking on the dates agreed in the proposal.
- Launch and weekly review. Campaigns go live when you activate them; from then on you get the dashboard every week and a monthly review of what to change.
Every claim in your ads and pages (pay, placement, cost, accreditation, financing) is sourced and approved in writing by your school before launch, as federal misrepresentation rules (34 CFR 668.71) make the school responsible for what its marketing partners say. The detailed method is in our guide to Facebook and Instagram ads for trade schools.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is the best paid media agency for career and trade schools?
The best fit is an agency that builds and measures what happens after the click (program pages, qualifying forms, fast follow-up and reporting on cost per start) and not only the ads. Ask every agency for that reporting in writing. Our published comparison of enrollment marketing agencies explains where other models fit better than ours.
Do you film our ads?
No. We write the scripts and a shot list, brief your team in a short video call, and your instructors and students film on a phone. We edit the footage into short ads and program videos.
Who pays for the ads?
Your school pays the media budget directly to Meta, on your own ad account. Our fee is separate and fixed.
Can you be paid per enrollment or per start?
No. Title IV schools may not pay incentives based on securing enrollments to anyone engaged in recruiting or admissions (34 CFR 668.14(b)(22)), and we apply fixed fees to every school.
Do you guarantee results?
We commit to the scope, milestones and delivery dates in the proposal, and we report the effect on your cost per start every week. We do not guarantee enrollments.
Do we need a CRM?
No. If you have one, we connect the forms, follow-up and tracking to it. If you do not, we set up a simple shared tracker so admissions can update each prospect’s status.
Do we keep everything if we stop?
Yes. The ad account, pixel, pages, videos, forms and data belong to your school from day one.
Can you run ads in Spanish?
Yes, where your area calls for it, as long as someone on your team can follow up with prospects in Spanish by phone and text.
